PHOENIX
→
Phoenix. Not too shabby. Enjoy!
Right Away, Great Captain! →
Heard Manchester Orchestra? You should recognize that main voice. A nice folky side project by the lead singer from Man Orch. Enjoy!
The Futureheads →
Free download. Go for it. The Futureheads. Enjoy!
Plushgun →
Plushgun. Mmhmm. They sound a lot like The Postal Service if you’re familiar with them. The backup electronic beats are amazing here. Enjoy!
Surfer Blood →
Surfer Blood is pretty sweet. If you listen you can definitely hear the “surf” influenced lyrics and sound. Pretty sweet stuff here. Enjoy!

Sleep Out →
Sleep Out is a pretty sweet band. The sections of pure instrumentals are where they really shine. Give them a listen for a great indie sound. Enjoy!
Doug Burr →
Doug Burr is awesome. Very awesome. I very much love his country style and I am no big fan of country music in general. It’s a very subtle style that will lend itself to fans of all genres. Listen now. Enjoy!
Fastball →
I found Fastball through Daytrotter. Love the lyrical work they put into each song. The backing music is pretty swank too, but first enjoy the lyrics. Yes, enjoy them. Enjoy!
Shy Child →
Shy Child is another awesome indie rock/8-bit wonder. “Drop The Phone” and “Astronaut” are probably my personal favs on their MySpace. The vocals meld perfectly with the grooving beats. Yes, I said grooving beats. Enjoy!
Biffy Clyro →
I have no idea how I came upon the awesomeness that is Biffy Clyro. Some how it came upon me. “Mountains” is such an awesome song, go listen to it now. Yes, now. They have a new album out to so go give it a listen as well. Enjoy!
Maritime
→
Maritime was suggested to me by a friend and I’m glad it was! I love their indie rock sound. The song “For Science Fiction” is especially awesome. Enjoy!

The Tallest Man on Earth →
Something really strikes me about acoustic/folk music. The Tallest Man on Earth really hits this genre well with great lyrics and accompanying great guitar work. This definitely won’t appeal to most people considering the stuff I’ve been posting all along, but if you at all enjoy acoustic/folky music, this is for you. Enjoy!
Uncle Skeleton →
Yes! Uncle Skeleton has some AWESOME instrumental tunes. Best of all you can get their entire album for FREE. Not only that, but you can get their new EP for free also, which is made up of remixes of their album. FREE I tell you, FREE! Yes! Also, the song “Diskoteq” really rocks. Give ‘em a listen. Enjoy! (MySpace)
Kaiser Chiefs →
Man there are some great indie bands in the UK! Kaiser Chiefs rocks! The electronic-y backups really are most especially awesome. “Never Miss A Beat” is probably my favorite so far, check it out. Enjoy!
Vampire Weekend →
Vampire Weekend has an awesome sound. Listen especially for the string instrumentals in “M97”. I love the work that they’ve done. Hard to describe in a post, but you will have to love them. Trust me. Enjoy!
Gameboys →
A great band covering some of the great oldie video game titles. The Super Mario Bros. theme is particularly AWESOME. Enjoy.

Manchester Orchestra →
Again, a great, unique band. A great straight-up rock-y indie band. Check out “I’ve Got Friends” and “The Only One”, great songs on there. Excellent stuff. Enjoy!
Mew →
Mew has such a unique sound, so it’s hard to define them with a specific genre. It’s an awesome experience to listen to their work, they’re so very different from the other bands out there. It’s very refreshing to hear them. Enjoy!
Paper Route →
An excellent band! It’s hard to describe then other than ambient-electronic. I love their sound, shown especially in the song “Carousel.” The vocals meld perfectly with the soundscape-esque backups. Enjoy!
Owl City →
Wow! I really enjoy Owl City, they have a really soft, mellow vocal quality that is great to listen to over and over again. They’ve got some good electronic beats that back up the vocals well. Enjoy!
Does It Offend You, Yeah? →
Sooooooooooooooooo good. So good. Does It Offend You, Yeah? has an awesome underlying techno-y beat that makes the whole album amazing. A few of their songs are great instrumental works that rank right up there with the vocal songs. I picked up their album the other day, it was so great. One of the best bands I’ve featured here. Enjoy!
Dr. Manhattan
→
Dr. Manhattan is awesome. Awesome. Awesome. Awesome. Awesome. Yes. Awesome. And they have a new album out. And they’re awesome. Still. They just have a great sound that begs for the repeat button. Listen up and enjoy, childrens!

Another crazy awesome 8bit band. You just gotta love this stuff. They have a MySpace too. Yes. Enjoy!
Thirteen Senses →
Thirteen Senses describes themselves as an indie/alternative band. For some reason the best comparison I can make is to Coldplay. When you get to their site, the best way to start listening is by clicking the audio player at the bottom of the screen. They’ve got an excellent vocal/piano/guitar meld going on, which makes them very easy to listen to. Enjoy!
Remains
Lately I’ve been finding a few bands that I’m interested in, but not necessarily excited about enough to give them a complete write up. So I’ve made the executive decision to clear out the list with a Remains style post in which I’ll just give the links to the bands with a few words of description. My guess is this type of post will become fairly regular, maybe even weekly....
Jackie Greene →
Jackie Greene is described as Rock / Folk / Psychedelic. I’ve only ever been a fan of one of these three: rock. Jackie really changes this for me. His “folk-y” sound doesn’t really come across as twangy and annoying as most folk stuff I’ve ever heard does. Jackie Green has an official website also. Also if you’re interested you can find four of his songs up for...
Super Mario World Crazy Remix →
Like I said, I love 8bit music. If you’ve ever played Super Mario, you’ll recognize most of the music being remixed here. If not, it’s a great 8bit tune all the same. See if you can catch the attempted Rickroll. Such an awesome song!
Under The Gun Review Presents: Building A Better... →
I don’t quite recall how I found this mixtape/sampler, strange how these things work. There’s quite a bit that I’m not a fan of on this sampler, but there are a few redeeming tracks on there, most notably from 12 Summers Old, The Judgment of Paris, and EATMEWHILEIMHOT. It’s a pretty “heavy” sampler so take it for what you will.
Bit Shifter →
I love 8bit music. Bit Shifter plays 8bit music. Thus I love Bit Shifter. End of story. There’s a lot of free 8bit music out there from very talented artists such as Bit Shifter, I encourage you to check it out. Even though it is instrumental, it’s very good work. Bit Shifter also has an official website. Enjoy!
little boots →
Don’t judge. Just scroll down and listen. Hey I said don’t judge.
Treaty of Paris →
Treaty of Paris is a little more punk-y than I usually like, but they have a little more aggressive sound than most punk bands. How’s that for a description? Just give them a listen. Enjoy!
Jonathan Coulton →
I can’t believe I haven’t featured JoCo yet! Jonathan Coulton is the poster boy for what musicians can do online. Coulton gives away a lot of his music and is incredibly successful. His stuff has a geek slant, which I love: there are a lot of inside jokes. If you’re not into the geeky stuff, there’s plenty of other stuff too. He’s got quite a few free downloads up, so...
eatmewhileimhot! →
Well. By no means have I ever been a fan of anything harder than rock. For some reason these guys have changed that. Here’s how they describe themselves: “These are all home recordings that we have thrown together. We realize that almost every song is a different genre. But we don’t want to be held down by a genre. Some songs are serious…some are not. So whatever we write...
12 Summers Old →
Wow. Just found 12 Summers Old and I must say I’m impressed. I ran across them via a mixtape that I found online and I’m glad I did. I’d describe them as a hard pop/punk. Don’t let my poor description of them turn you off. Acoustical goodness indeed! Enjoy!
The Judgement of Paris →
The Judgement of Paris is a little harder than most of the stuff I’ve been posting here, but I really enjoy them. I’ve been listening to their music for awhile and it’s really sticky. Enjoy!
Miniature Tigers →
I’ve enjoyed Miniature Tigers for awhile. In fact I was introduced to them through the “Cannibal Queen” music video. They have an awesome style that’s very unique! Enjoy!
The Rural Alberta Advantage →
The Rural Alberta Advantage is an interesting band. I’ve only been able to listen to two of their songs (the ones listed as available for free download), but even those two tracks were great. Their full album “Hometowns” is available for purchase on their site as well. They have a very indie sound, but don’t let that turn you off, take some time and give them a chance....
Now, Now Every Children →
Now, Now Every Children has a great sound, the songs up on their MySpace are EXCELLENT. The female vocals meld perfectly with the electronic-y beats. Enjoy!
